Our Own Pet Policy

Before we get into all the specifics of plants that are toxic to animals, here is our own pet policy in case you didn’t know what it was: “Pet owners have to provide current shot record for your pets, country registration, and a recent photograph. Please note that The Apartments of Wildewood has some strict policies regarding breeds allowed on the property and any weight restrictions. There is a $250.00 pet fee along with a $25.00 per month for pet rent.”

Lily Plants

If you have a cat, you shouldn’t have lilies inside your apartment. Lilies are known for their fragrant bloom and soothing colors, but they present a serious danger to some animals. The lily plant is toxic to cats if ingested. Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, lack of appetite, kidney failure, increased salivation, and death. If you receive a bouquet of flowers, make sure to remove any lilies you have.

Dumb Cane Plant

Dieffenbachia, or also known as Dumb Cane, can make your pets very sick if they ingest it. Signs of ingestion are increased salvation or swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue, or throat. This plant has the potential to be dangerous around young children too.

Elephant Ear Plant

Caladium, otherwise known as elephant ear, is made up of big, arrow-shaped leaves. This plant is found in both outdoor and indoor areas, so keep an eye out for it if you’re walking your dog around the community. It is toxic to animals too. Signs of ingestions are loss of appetite, oral pain, drooling, vomiting, pawing at the mouth, and trouble breathing. Keep your pets safe by keeping this plant outside your townhouse apartment.
