Tips for Downsizing When Moving into a New Townhouse Apartment

Downsizing into a townhouse apartment is never a bad thing.

At some point in their lives, people realize that they might have too much space and would like to downsize into a smaller townhouse apartment. While it could be hard to get rid of all your items, it could also be quite freeing to part ways with items you do not need. Read on to learn a couple of downsizing tips to take with you as you move into your brand new townhouse apartment!

Choosing Which Apartment Items to Give Away

As you begin to downsize, you should have items in mind that won’t be coming with you to your new townhouse apartment. Think through each decision, as it is essential to leave behind any items that will not bring you happiness. If you haven’t used an object or worn a piece of clothing over an entire year, it does not need to come with you to your new house. Be strict during this whole process, and you’ll see just how easy it is to part ways with items that you don’t need.

Donate or Sell Unwanted Belongings

Before you begin to sort out your belongings, ask your friends, family, and neighbors if they are interested in any items or have certain requests. If you have a friend that loves a piece of artwork that you do not feel a particular attachment to, donate it to them. While it might seem a bit hard to get rid of unwanted items at first, it makes it much, much easier when you see just how much joy your belongings bring to family and friends. Donating gently-used and furniture to some thrift stores or consignment shops is also an excellent way to make sure items are used by somebody who might need them more than you do in your townhouse apartment.

A List of Items to Get Rid Of

If you need some assistance to help start the downsizing process, here is a list of different things you do not need when moving into a townhouse apartment.

  • Wheelbarrow
  • Big power tools
  • Ladders
  • Garden tools
  • Various sets of glassware, dishes, mixing bowls. You’ll only need one set of each.
  • Excessive outdoors decorations

Of course, any furniture that will not fit through your doors and clothes that won’t fit in your drawers and closet should be on your donate or sell list as well.
