How to Find the Perfect Spot For Your Winter Apartment Rental

If you’re currently looking for an apartment rental during the winter months, you might be in a bit of a dilemma.

If you’re currently looking for an apartment rental during the winter months, you might be in a bit of a dilemma. Yeah, it’s excellent to look during the down season when there are more available deals, but inventory is also low, and you might not have many good choices. Here are some helpful tips to help you find a new apartment rental spot this winter because there are plenty of reliable deals out there if you know where and how to look!

Be Open to A Shorter – Or Even Longer – Lease

Since inventory is typically limited during the winter, you might have more options to pick from if you open your search a bit. Instead of sticking with the usual 12-month lease, see if there are more choices if you consider a nine or fifteen-month lease. If you’re up for a shorter lease cycle, you might open more listings.

Look in Nearby Neighborhoods

Open up your apartment rental search to nearby areas, as opposed to targeting your search to one specific neighborhood. If it isn’t super crucial that you stay in a city center, increasing the radius of your apartment search will yield more listing results to pick from. Try to see if there are any apartments available near a train, bus, or subway line for an easy commute.

Look Into Subletting or Taking Over Someone Else’s Lease

If your lease ends in December and you’re strapped for time, it might be wise to look into sublets. Usually, some renters are still under lease but not currently living in their apartment. This includes students, people who had to move for work reasons, to name a few. Subletting for a couple of months until the apartment rental market picks back up again in the spring will buy you enough time to shop around to see what works. It will also give you a good deal on rent since there are subletters who are also desperate to fill in their spot, so they aren’t paying rent for no reason.

Work with a Broker or Agent

An agent or broker has built up multiple relationships with landlords and will know the in’s and out’s of the apartment rental market. If you’re having trouble finding an apartment, or need someone to help you negotiate, a broke has got you covered.
