Get a few estimates from the services you may need, like vehicle rentals or movers, and work up a quick estimate of any other supplies you’ll need so you know what you’re working with.

Certain periods of the year, particularly the summer months, are when people tend to move the most. While moving during the winter can be difficult and frustrating in its own ways, it’s also one of the better ways to save money if that’s a big concern for you. If you’ve got the flexibility to wait and look around a bit more, you may want to put moving off until it becomes a bit cheaper.
Get Free Moving Boxes
If you’re willing to do a bit of work, you can find free moving boxes to cut down your costs. Call up a local grocery store, restaurants, liquor stores, office supply stores and more to see if they’re getting rid of boxes and are willing to part with some for free. Taking a look online at sites like Craigslist or local Facebook groups can also help you track down some leads on free boxes.
Donate or Sell
Before you move, getting rid of some of your stuff can cut down on how much you end up spending overall. Plus, if you part with certain items, you may be able to make a few extra bucks on the side. Cutting down on everything that needs to be moved ultimately makes the cost more reasonable.
