3 Tips for Accommodating Guests in Your Apartment

Apartment

Are you hosting guests in your apartment for the holiday season? Make sure to follow these tips.

It’s the time for holidays and that means hosting guests for many of us. However, having guests stay with you if you’re in a smaller apartment can sometimes be stressful, as you want to all cohabitate without tripping over one another. Sure, you may not have the luxury of a dedicated guest room, but there are still plenty of ways to make your loved ones feel at home. Get yourself ready for the holiday season—and the guests that may come with it—by following these three tips for accommodating guests in an apartment.

1. Find Sleeping Space

First and foremost, you need somewhere for them to sleep. Having a dedicated guest bed is the easiest way to do this, but a pull-out sofa, or even regular sofa, are other common options. You may also want to look into air mattresses. These can be easily stored away when not in use and are surprisingly comfortable, not to mention they aren’t nearly as expensive as they once were and can be found for fairly reasonable prices online. If none of these are an option or you’re just hosting multiple guests, finding the softest floor and making it softer via extra blankets and cushions is a great last resort for very temporary guests.

2. Make Sure You Have Room For Their Belongings

Remember: guests come along with baggage. That means you need to have adequate space for them to put their luggage, as you don’t want to force them to have to walk out to the car every morning for a fresh pair of clothes. Before guests arrive, remember to clear some space for their bags. This can be a dedicated table or shelf, or even just a space beneath a table, but make sure you’ve cleared some room for their bags to go that is still easily accessible to them and doesn’t require them to enter your own bedroom or something like that.

3. Throw In Some Extras

It’s always wise to keep some extra toiletries around in case you have guests over. This means keeping a spare bottle of shampoo, body soap, toothpaste, and even a few extra toothbrushes is a good idea. People often forget these things and having them on-hand shows that you’re a quality host. Lastly, remember to keep fresh towels in your apartment—many people forego putting towels in their luggage because they take up so much room but still need one once they arrive.
