Bank statements may also be requested for the same purpose.
Identification
If you’re going out to look at apartments or fill out applications, be sure to bring some form of identification. Most often, this means your driver’s license, state ID, or even passport. This is to verify your identity and make sure you are who you say you are. Similarly, your social security number may be used to check your credit, so make sure you know what your number is.
Vehicle Registration and Insurance
If your rental unit comes with a parking space, it’s important that your landlord or agency knows who the vehicle belongs to. This is a good thing for you as well, as it can keep you from running out of valuable parking spaces due to strangers or guests. In the event that a vehicle is abandoned in the lot, it’s also important that they know who it belongs to.
References and Rental History
If you’ve had previous landlords, your new landlord may want to speak to them and verify that you were a good tenant. You may need to provide a completely history of where you’ve rented, including addresses, the phone number of who manages the property, how long you stayed, and why you inevitably left.
