Concerned about snow this winter? Worry not, apartment renters!
We’ve already seen snowfall this year, surprisingly early in December in fact. This light bit of snow was a welcomed visitor for most Marylanders, but for some, it’s brought worries of heavier snowstorms later in the season. Worry not! We want to arm you with all the knowledge you need to make your stay in your apartment during any snowstorms as safe and enjoyable as can be. Stocking Up On Food
It’s not a bad idea to fill your refrigerator up with meat, vegetables, and milk, but keep in mind that there’s a chance you could lose power. There’s no telling how many days you may not be able to access a grocery store, so to be on the safe side, buy some non-perishables as well. Canned foods like soup are always great to have on hand, whereas cereal is always great as well. You may also want to purchase a gallon or two of fresh water just in case!
Medical Supplies
Make sure you’re caught up on all your prescriptions and have at least a week supply if you get snowed in. Road conditions might make it difficult to go out and get refills in the case of a snowstorm. You also should make sure your apartment is stocked with a first aid kit that includes bandages, aspirin, ibuprofen, antihistamines, and something to clean wounds with. Hopefully, no one will get injured while you’re snowed in, but there’s always a chance of someone slipping on ice so it’s good to be prepared just in case.
Remember Power May Go Out
Your power could go out during a snowstorm so you need to keep that in mind. Keeping yourself warm is critical—though you can’t use a gas stove or portable barbeque as a means to heat yourself up, as they produce carbon monoxide and could be dangerous indoors. Instead, invest in a warm sleeping bag and some hand and toe warmers. Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, and candles on hand to keep things lit up at night!
